Cost of Freedom Receives $25,000 Grant in Support of Advisor Deanna Filosa’s Volunteer Efforts
Melville, NY, July 21, 2021—Cost of Freedom, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support and appreciate servicemen and servicewomen returning from combat, has received a $25,000 grant from the MassMutual Foundation as a tribute to the volunteer efforts of Deanna Filosa, an advisor whose practice is affiliated with Charter Oak.
Cost of Freedom was one of only two organizations to receive a grant at the $25,000 level as part of the foundation’s national Community Service Award (CSA) program.
Ms. Filosa has been involved with Cost of Freedom since 2014, volunteering her time, energy, and professional expertise to broaden the organization’s impact throughout New York and beyond. She has been instrumental in developing local programming and partnerships with veteran’s organizations across the country to support military families, and has elevated the organization’s focus on support specific to women who have served. In December 2020, Ms. Filosa was the first female civilian asked to serve on Cost of Freedom’s Board of Directors.
“Seven years ago, my family and I attended Cost of Freedom’s three-day event at the Army-Navy football game to honor disabled veterans,” said Ms. Filosa. “We were never the same after that weekend. My work with this organization has truly enriched my life, and I am thrilled to see it benefit from this generous grant.”
Brad Somma, Charter Oak Financial Managing Partner, said “Cost of Freedom has been an integral part of Deanna’s out-of-work life since I’ve known her. Her devotion to this organization’s important work is an inspiration to us all, and we couldn’t be happier that MassMutual chose to honor this work.”
